Episode 32 - Mondays with Melissa

TW: Today we talk about abusive relationships and domestic violence so please know that if you are in a DV situation or know someone who is, there is help. Go to www.thehotline.org or call 1-800-799-7233

On today’s episode, Melissa provides some insight into domestic violence relationships by going through 13 power/control games that people play in unhealthy relationships. She breaks down each game and provides examples of each to help you better understand what victims in these relationships are experiencing.  As part of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Melissa hopes to bring more information about DV so more people are aware of what is going on in those relationships that stops victims from leaving.

Topics Melissa mentions:

* Domestic Violence awareness is important, especially learning how to be more supportive of those you think might be in a DV situation. Find more information at https://ncadv.org/

* According to https://ncadv.org 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. This includes a range of behaviors (e.g. slapping, shoving, pushing) and in some cases might not be considered "domestic violence." 1 in 7 women and 1 in 25 men have been injured by an intimate partner.

*YWCA of the Inland Northwest has programs specifically for victims of Domestic Violence
